Minimum connectivity requirements to use the Jeenie mobile or web app
Connectivity Basics
Jeenie works on WiFi and cellular networks.
To ensure a smooth experience, you must have a stable internet connection with enough bandwidth to sustain a multiparty video session:
- Minimum dedicated: 350 kb/s download per stream
- Minimum dedicated: 350 kb/s upload per stream
About Bandwidth:
Video calls require more bandwidth and better connectivity than audio calls.
If connectivity drops, Jeenie automatically prioritizes audio over video to avoid disrupting your conversation. You may temporarily lose video while audio remains connected. Once connectivity improves, video will be restored.
VPN Usage and Connectivity
VPN usage can significantly affect your ability to connect to and use the Jeenie app.
Policy:
- US-based interpreters: VPN usage is strictly prohibited.
- All interpreters: Using a VPN to disguise your location or to obtain higher pay rates is prohibited and may result in removal from the platform.
- VPN use is only acceptable when it does not change your country of origin (e.g., a Netherlands-based interpreter using a Netherlands VPN for network security).
- In rare cases, interpreters located in regions with local internet restrictions may require a VPN to access Jeenie. This is only considered on a case-by-case basis, must be disclosed to Jeenie, and must not route traffic through another country.
- Any interpreter found violating these VPN rules is subject to deplatforming.
If you are experiencing latency or call quality issues and are using an approved VPN, try temporarily disabling it to see if your connection improves.
Test Your Connectivity
If you experience issues such as choppy video or audio:
- The network may self-correct within a few seconds.
- If the problem persists, try turning off your camera to conserve bandwidth.
Pre-Call Test:
To check your device’s readiness:
- In your preferred browser, go to https://tokbox.com/developer/tools/precall/
- Click Run Test
- Review the results under Hardware & Software Setup to ensure:
- All “Connectivity to Vonage Video API Servers” boxes are GREEN
- “Expected Call Quality” is Good or Excellent
If results are good and issues persist, try switching browsers.
